At boot time: Holding the shift key down will show ''# of #" for the currently displayed fortune. Additionally, The fortune will be displayed as long as the option key is held down.
Other INITs may clear or redraw the screen. By changing the order in which the INITs are run, you can run those INITs which change the screen first and have your fortune displayed for the longest time. System folder files of the types: INIT, RDEV, & cdev which contain INIT resources are executed at startup in alphabetical order. Fortune is usually named !Fortune, so it will be run first.
There are 3313 regular fortunes and 370 obscene ones. The fortunes are shown randomly based upon the time.
The fortunes contained in this database were obtained from a USENET posting, the following warning accompanied the fortunes:
Warning: The fortunes contained in the fortune database have been collected haphazardly from a cacophony of sources, in number so huge it boggles the mind. It is impossible to do any meaningful quality control on attributions, or lack thereof, or exactness of the quote. Since this database is not used for profit, and since entire works are not published, it falls under fair use, as we understand it. However, if any half-assed idiot decides to make a profit off of this, they will need to double check it all, and nobody not involved of such an effort makes any warranty that anything in the database bears any relation to the real world of literature, law, or other bizzarrity.

Author's notes: Version III of this program will have the fortunes in a compressed form and will be made as soon as I can find the time. There is also a companion INIT called {Pause} which will pause until the option key is released. The purpose of this INIT is to allow other INITs to be executed while you read the current fortune. If you should decide that you need more time to view the fortune you can then hold down the option key.
